Shakespeare's Henry V -- George Frisch
Monday, February 12 1pm-3pm
United Methodist Church, SLO
With soaring poetry, Shakespeares Henry V celebrates the impossible victory of 5000 English (We few, we happy few, we band of brothers) over 30,000 French on the field of Agincourt.
But Henry V tells another story too the story of a young king who takes the reins of power in a country still bleeding from civil war. He seeks peace in England through war in France. The success of his reign and the welfare of his realm depend on it. Not everyone wishes him well.
In this two-hour session, we will explore the poetry, politics, humor, and the undercurrent of anti-war sentiment in Shakespeares Henry V.
George Frisch is a retired securities lawyer and former associate professor of law with a lifelong interest in Shakespeare. He has taught several LLCC and OLLI courses about Shakespeare's plays and sonnets
