Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, now in its 9th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.
(Please note: The show now starts at 7pm, rather than 8pm.)
We're starting off the year on Thursday, January 18 with Yayne Abeba, Sid Singh, Nick Leonard, Abhay Nadkarni and Lisa Geduldig.
Yayne Abeba is a San Francisco native, comedian, and activist. Her comedy makes you sit up straight in your chair and listen because she's got something to say. Yayne excels in the way she rolls jokes off that edge of comfort and finesses it with a tell it like it is teflon charm. Color her smart and powerful! Growing up in the diverse world of the Haight Ashbury, she gives us glimpses at different cultures: Ethiopian, American, and millennials. www.yayneabeba.com
Sid Singh is a rising comic who lives in San Francisco. He has appeared on BBC Red Button, The Sky Network, and SBC TV as well as BBC Radio, BBC Asia, Race Wars Podcast, and Fresh Air Scotland. He recently did his 4th show "Amazing Probably" at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where he sold out his 17-show run. He is a law student by day. www.facebook.com/Sid-Singh-Comedy-102825176429296
Nick Leonard performs his dry and sly humor at clubs around California and all over the world including Marsh Theater, NYU, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The San Francisco Fringe Festival, and the Vancouver International Comedy Festival. He is the co-founder of the QComedy Showcase (currently on hiatus) and the popular Bilarious Show in the National Queer Arts Festival. He also performs regularly as his alter ego Ginorma Desmond.
Abhay Nakarni moved from South-India to South Central Los Angeles for grad school. Dodging bullets en-route to grad school armed him with plenty of stories and stand up was his only catharsis for combating culture shock. His act is an eclectic mix of his experience as an immigrant in the US. He has performed at numerous Comedy Festivals including Burbank Comedy Festival, San Diego Comedy Festival, and SF Sketchfest. Abhay runs The Setup, a weekly comedy show in SF voted one of the best shows to watch by Thrillist and is the co-producer of the annual Desi Comedy Fest, which takes place around Northern California each August. www.comedianabhay.com
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ (which celebrated its 25th Anniversary in December!); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion. She has recently started another monthly comedy show, Comedy at Ashkenaz! on the second Thursday of the month at Ashkenaz in Berkeley. Lisa moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
Must be over 21 as it's a bar. Tickets on sale on a sliding scale basis: $7 to $20.
