THE MOON AND YOU, KIM LAMOTHE & CHRISTOPHER MOON at SANDYWOODS
FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 2013 - THE MOON AND YOU, KIM LAMOTHE & CHRISTOPHER MOON
8 pm, doors open 7:30 pm BYOB & food allowed $10 advance, $12 at the door
The Moon and You is an indie songwriter duo out of Asheville, North Carolina. Ryan Furstenberg plays guitar, Melissa Hyman plays cello, and they both contribute vocals. They blend cello and guitar to craft folk music with a 70's singer-songwriter feel in the vein of Joan Baez or Harry Nilsson. Together they make tender songs that feel like a warm homemade blanket.
Ryan and Melissa began playing together for fun when both were part of successful bands touring the Southeast. When those bands went their separate ways, Ryan and Melissa chose to join forces. The result of this collaboration is hard to forget and easy to fall for.
Still road warriors, The Moon and You has never skipped a beat. Ryan and Melissa have continued touring almost nonstop throughout the Southeastern US as well as NYC and DC. Their Sandywoods concert will be a rare and welcome New England appearance. They are quickly building a loyal and very impressed fan base, and doing it the old-fashioned way. Each of their concerts showcases thoughtful and unusual string arrangements, thought-provoking songwriting, fingerstyle guitar, and gorgeous vocal harmonies. The Moon and You keeps fans coming back with passionate and skillful instrumentation and voices that blend like they were made for one another.
Kim Lamothe is a singer/songwriter (and organic gardener) with a unique ability to match poetic lyrics with rhythmic guitar. Her voice has a pleasant tension of emotion and expression with a unique style of delivery. Finger-plucked ballads and driving rhythms make her songs diverse and her performances imploring.
Like Ani DiFranco and Regina Spektor, Kim can brighten the room while breaking your heart. Give this gardener a guitar and you will get deep-rooted songs that bloom. Her music "brings to mind the music of Rickie Lee Jones and late period Joni Mitchell." (Ian Fitzgerald).
Kim was nominated Best Singer/Songwriter 2009 by the Providence Phoenix, and Best Female Vocalist 2010 by the Phoenix and Motif Magazine. The Kim Lamothe Trio's "Mystery of Viburnum" release was named one of the top ten local albums of 2010 by the Providence Phoenix.
Christopher Moon is a keen observer of the human condition. He plays a slim-body Martin guitar for a lighter acoustic/electric sound, which he combines with intricate harmonica that mix in harmony with a unique, rusty hook of a voice that is surprisingly flexible. Whether playing solo or with a band, his shows are compelling.
His first full length album, "Shine," offers a diverse selection of songs, rustic vocals, finger-plucked ballads, and more complex developed songs with bass and drums, as well as live tracks.
