FRIDAY, MARCH 22, 2013 - REBECCA CORREIA with MATT CUSSON
7:30 pm, doors open 7 pm BYOB & food allowed $12 advance, $15 at the door
Rebecca Correia is a genuine force of nature, a performer who fiercely outshines the current avalanche of artificially manufactured stars. An intensely gifted artist whose otherworldly voice conveys her immense heart and keenly crafted songs, she is an artist's artist, a writer's writer, yet one whom growing audiences adore and call their own.
Her exquisitely sung, passionately performed songs reveal an emotional immediacy eagerly shared by her listeners.
In Nashville parlance, she is a triple threat, that rare combination of talent realized in one person: a soulful songwriter, a feverishly adept musician, and a phenomenally gifted singer. Vance Gilbert described her as "a broken-winged angel" after their first shared performance.
Still in her twenties, she's a young veteran whose artistry stretches back 15 years. With well over 200 songs to her credit, she has released five indie CDs, including the critically-acclaimed "Miss You" and the solo acoustic tour de force "Soul of Me," which was recorded live at Sirius Satellite Radio in New York City in 2009.
The growing list of major artists who have welcomed Rebecca as their opener includes Natasha Bedingfield, Shawn Colvin, Livingston Taylor, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Vance Gilbert, Melissa Ferrick, Cliff Eberhardt, Tracy Bonham, Jessie Colter, Freedy Johnston, Reel Big Fish, Black Eyed Peas, Raining Jane, Ryan Cabrera, and Lucy Kaplansky.
Rebecca averages a hundred shows each year. Every one of her performances is mesmerizing. Don't miss her at Sandywoods!
Opening for Rebecca is Matt Cusson, a contemporary jazz artist whose musical array features a combination of Jazz, R&B, and Pop.
Born and raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the son of a classical piano teacher and choir director/arranger, Matt was introduced to music of all different genres at an early age. He later studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he played with John Mayer and Ryan Leslie. He was chosen to participate in the Singer Showcase, a forum highlighting Berklee's best vocalists.
This award-winning singer/songwriter and pianist continues to wow audiences. He is a gifted self-taught musician who excels in jazz, pop, and soul, as demonstrated by his expert writing and arranging skills on his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album of 2009. That same year, Matt won (by unanimous vote) the John Lennon Songwriting Contest's top annual prize - the Maxell Song of the Year - for his jazz ballad "One of Those Nights." The song also won the Billboard Songwriting Award in the Best Jazz Song category, and came in second in the International Songwriting Competition, as well as being nominated for a 2011 Los Angeles Music Award for "Best Male Vocalist" and "Best Jazz Song."
Matt has performed with Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, The Roots, Babyface, Christina Aguilera, and Livingston Taylor.
