Theremin Workshop and Concert with Carolina Eyck
Patchwerks and Theremin World are extremely proud to present a theremin workshop and concert with the accomplished Carolina Eyck, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 6-9 PM. Tickets may be purchased for the workshop + concert ($25) or for the concert alone ($10 - concert begins at 8 PM).
Details about the workshop:
Carolina offers a Theremin Workshop for beginners and all curious people who would like to get to know the instrument and give it a try themselves.
She explains basic playing technique for the left and right hand and will give instructions for simple exercises. You will learn how to tune the theremin and how play a scale with her 8 finger position technique. There will be time for some improvisation as well, to show you the variety of sounds the theremin has to offer.
The workshop is open for everybody, whether you are new to the theremin or you have some advanced questions!
Details about the concert:
Carolina creates layers of sound colors with her voice and theremin, playing with loops and effects. The style of the music varies between jazz, contemporary and experimental. While many parts are composed, there is always space for improvisations.

Some background information about Carolina Eyck:
At the age of 7 Carolina got her first theremin lessons by Lydia Kavina. After her debut in the Berlin Philharmonic in 2002 she has been invited to various concerts and festivals in the whole world. It was not long before she was known as one of the best theremin soloists worldwide.
As a soloist and chamber musician she has given concerts worldwide and collaborated with Heinz Holliger, Robert Kolinsky, Gerhard Oppitz, the conductors Andrey Boreyko, Michael Sanderling, Gürer Aykal and John Storgårds, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the HR-Symphony Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, the Heidelberg Symphonic Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble.
From 2011 on an increasing number of pieces have been written for the theremin, very often composed straightaway for Carolina Eyck. The first one was the Theremin Concerto Air by Andrew Norman. In 2012, Carolina played the theremin solo at the world premiere of the two symphonies Mesopotamia and Universe by Fazil Say. The Finnish composer Kalevi Aho dedicated the Theremin Concerto Eight Seasons to Carolina which she performed for the first time in October 2012. In October 2015 Carolina Eyck and Christoper Tarnow published a CD with the newest compositions for theremin and piano, the Theremin Sonatas. In October 2016 Carolina Eyck and American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) released the "Fantasias for Theremin and String Quartet", composed by Carolina Eyck.
