Politics and Prose Presents JUNOT DIAZ
Junot Diaz, Pulitzer Prize winner and National Book Award finalist, brings his magic to the world of children's books with ISLANDBORN. In this celebration of diversity and imagination, Lola's family helps her to remember the island of her origins for a class assignment. The memories are sometimes dreadful, sometimes wondrous and joyful. With Diaz's trademark vibrancy enlivened by Leo Espinosas effervescent illustrations, Lola's story is full of the sights, sounds, hurricanes, and magic of the Dominican Republic. Diaz says children's books are "our first passports into the world," and this book is one young girls first exuberant voyage into her familys courageous history. (All ages)
