The Bento Box! Cooking Class Just for Kids
Through works of art, discover Japans deep respect for and appreciation of nature in LACMAs Japanese Pavillion. Discover the history of tea and the tea ceremony, rice, and more, before heading to the ArtBites Pop-up Kitchen (a 3-minute drive from the museum) to prepare your very own bento box and partake in a tea ceremony.
Menu may include: Miso Soup Sushi Seaweed Cucumber Salad Green Tea Shortbread Cookies
Ages 7 to 12. Class is limited to 6 children and one accompanying adult per child. No drop off.
Please note that though this class meets at LACMA is it not LACMA organized.
ABOUT ARTBITES: Maite Gomez-Rejon has a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Grande Diplome from the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Since 1995 Maite has worked in the education departments of such renowned museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art and the J. Paul Museum; and has worked as a private chef and caterer. In 2007, Maite founded ArtBites (www.artbites.net), art and culinary history combined with hands-on cooking instruction, which she teaches at museums across the country. Maite has been a guest on the Today Show, featured in Food & Wine magazine and interviewed on NPRs Splendid Table. She is a contributor to Life & Thyme, the HuffPost, and other publications.
