Milt Manville is a prosperous businessman, who says he is more in love now than on the day he was married.... but his wife won't give him a divorce! Harry Berlin is a "born loser" who has suffered the ultimate put-down and considers jumping off a bridge. As Fate would have it ...or is it divine intervention...Milt comes along in time to prevent the jump, then recognizes Harry as an old college chum. Then the light bulb goes off... Why not bring Harry and Ellen together and if successful Milt can marry his true love, Linda. He does. It isn't an easy courtship, if it can be called that, but eventually they hit it off.
Murray Schisgal's cautionary tale of dysfunctional "LUV" (not to be confused with real "LOVE") has been described as a mix of absurdist humor and traditional Broadway comedy at its best! It's a throwback to the 1960's and Its characters are larger than life and the situations so bizarre that you can't help laughing at them!
The original Broadway production was nominated for five Tony awards, won three of them, and ran for 901 performances.
