Etude Fantasy for solo piano (1976)
Chiaroscuro for two pianos, tuned one quarter-tone apart (1997)

About the Artists:
The American JOHN CORIGLIANO continues to add to one of the richest, most unusual, and most widely celebrated bodies of work any composer has created over the last forty years.
Corigliano's scores, now numbering over one hundred, have won him the Pulitzer Prize, the Grawemeyer Award, four Grammy Awards, and an Academy Award (Oscar) and have been performed and recorded by many of the most prominent orchestras, soloists, and chamber musicians in the world. Attentive listening to this music reveals an unconfined imagination, one which has taken traditional notions like "symphony" or "concerto" and redefined them in a uniquely transparent idiom forged as much from the post-war European avant garde as from his American forebears.

Canadian-born violinist LARA ST. JOHN has been described as "something of a phenomenon" by The Strad and a high-powered soloist by the New York Times. She has performed as soloist with the orchestras of Cleveland, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, the Boston Pops, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, NDR Symphony, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Strasbourg Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony, Camerata Ireland, Belgrade Symphony, Amsterdam Symphony, and the Akbank Chamber Orchestra in Turkey, among others. The Los Angeles Times wrote Lara St. John happens to be a volcanic violinist with a huge, fabulous tone that pours out of her like molten lava. She has technique to burn and plays at a constant high heat. Her 2008 world premiere recording of Matthew Hindsons Violin Concerto prompted Gramophone to write: Its the sort of work that should get audiences running, not walking, back to concert halls on new-music nights.

MARTIN KENNEDY began his formal training at the Jacobs School of Music, where he received Bachelors of Music in both Composition and Piano Performance. He went on to earn a Master of Music in Composition at the Jacobs School and a Doctor of Musical Arts at the Juilliard School where he was a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow. His principal teachers in composition include Samuel Adler, Milton Babbitt, Claude Baker, David Dzubay, Don Freund, and Sydney Hodkinson. His principal teachers in piano include Jeremy Denk and Evelyne Brancart. Kennedy also remains in demand as a pianist and collaborator, appearing on concert stages worldwide and such radio programs as BBCs In Tune and NPRs Performance Today.  He has toured with violinist Lara St. John and flutist Thomas Robertello, with whom he has both recorded with and written for.  He has also appeared as a collaborator with such internationally renowned artists as Kim Kashkashian, Pat Sheridan, Gail Williams, Amy Porter, Marianne Gedigian, and Demondrae Thurman, among others. Kennedy is also committed to the performance of new works, having premiered numerous compositions as both a soloist and as a member of both the Indiana University New Music Ensemble and the New Juilliard Ensemble. He is currently an Associate Professor and Director of Composition and Theory at Central Washington University, having previously served as a member of the academic faculty at Washington University in St. Louis.

Pianist STEPHEN GOSLING enjoys a varied career as soloist and chamber musician with a particular focus on the music of our time. He earned his bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees at The Juilliard School, where he was awarded the Mennin Prize and Sony Elevated Standards Fellowship, and appeared as concerto soloist on an unprecedented four occasions. He is a member of New York New Music Ensemble, Talea Ensemble, Orchestra of the League of Composers, Perspectives Ensemble, and Ne(x)tworks, and has appeared as guest artist with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Orpheus, Orchestra of St. Lukes, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, eighth blackbird, American Composers Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra of Europe, among many others. He frequently performs in the Lincoln Center, Mostly Mozart, and June in Buffalo festivals. His work has garnered critical acclaim, including a New York Times profile. Mr. Gosling has collaborated with composers including Pierre Boulez, Elliott Carter, Brian Ferneyhough, Oliver Knussen, Steve Reich, Poul Ruders, Charles Wuorinen, and John Zorn, with whom he has performed worldwide over the past two seasons and released several recent recordings (including the 2015 Pulitzer Prize-nominated Hexentarot).
