THE MAGIC NEGRO | Atlanta, GA
From the brilliant mind of comedian Mark Kendall out of Atlanta, GA, comes the hilarious and thought-provoking show, The Magic Negro. Have you ever pondered the idea that Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham might be racially charged? Is it possible to skip and listen to hip-hop at the same time? Do black people actually carry around race cards? Well, maybe its time to take a closer look. Mark Kendall uses a series of comedic sketches to examine the representation of black males in the media in his critically acclaimed one-man show. From prison to white flight, and even Reading Rainbow well explore some of the ways these images influence our views on race in everyday life. There will also be cookies.
VERNON MOSES | Charleston, SC
Vernon Moses is a sketch duo comprised of Jon Antoine and Deshawn Mason. Their form of story telling is a mixture of pop culture references, life experiences, and a dash of eccentricity. Also, they've been voted best sketch group by their mothers at least once.
A KRASS ACT | New York, NY
Comedian Lauren Hope Krass, hailing from NYC, has worked very hard to try and make some sense of her life through play-writing, songwriting, and stand up comedy. With original songs such as "Someday I'll Find the Right D-Bag for Me" and "Fat With Standards", you're sure to get a good laugh or hundred. The show incorporates themes of romance, sexuality, body image and what its like to dress up like Fat J Lo on the Dr. Oz show.
