About Leche De Tigre
A blend of musical styles referred to as "latin gypsy funk", often laced with rock influences, is characteristic of Leche De Tigre (LEH-cheh deh TEE-greh). The band's sound relies on percussive grooves and the melodic impact of acoustic guitars to engage the audience, beckoning dancers and listeners of all ages and backgrounds. Nylon string guitars, drums, bass, cello, latin percussion, trumpet, and vocals compose the group, started in 2009 in Kona, Hawaii.
With material from first album Lactophilia and a fresh batch of original tunes, covers and traditional songs in their repertoire, Leche De Tigre followed a string of theater concerts in Hawaii with a successful first run of shows in Las Vegas and California to close out the summer of 2012. The band is venturing into California again with several dates in March 2013.
How It Started Leche De Tigre sprouted from a weekly acoustic jam session in the back of Ceviche Dave's restaurant in Kona, Hawaii. The musically adventurous and jovial gatherings explored exotic flavors of latin, gypsy jazz, rock, afro-cuban, and classical styles. Within months, it became an event in itself, with a growing audience coming to enjoy the unusual music.
Some band members soon ventured out to play together at other venues, receiving positive responses to their fresh and energetic sound and landing the band gigs. Leche De Tigre continued honing their rocking latin gypsy funk sound playing shows regularly at restaurants, clubs, private events, as well as theater, festival and outdoor concert venues.
