the return of the original musical
TRINKETS
Created and directed by Paul E Alexander January 11 Feb 3 at The Gene Frankel Theatre
Following a sold-out engagement last fall Off-Broadway, the new musical TRINKETS returns by popular demand to the stage this month with performances January 11-February 3 at the Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond St.) in Manhattan. With book, music and lyrics by Paul E Alexander, TRINKETS is an original musical set in NYCs meatpacking district and concerns a tight-knit group of drag and transsexual prostitutes who worked those streets during the 1990s. TRINKETS depicts a time of growth in the LGBT community which is often overlooked. TRINKETS has choreography by Antyon LeMonte, with supplemental music by Laurent Caillat, Eli Escobar, Rami Ramirez, and Samurai (Kevin Aviance and Uri Dalal). PAUL E ALEXANDER is a performer and 1st time playwright, most notably known for the legendary East Village 1990s performance art-dance party Jackie 60 where he honed his vocal emcee and performance skills. Following many solo underground dance singles, Alexander gained international success with the dance-pop trio THE ONES, known for their #1 Dance/ #7 Pop hit Flawless.
Since the conclusion of the fall engagement of TRINKETS at Gene Frankel Theatre, Mr. Alexander has created new material for the production.
The cast is comprised of: HONEY DAVENPORT (Diva), MERCEDES TORRES (Strawberry), JAY KNOWLES (Janet), ANTYON LEMONTE (Blondie), JULIA ROSE (Trinket), KEVIN AVIANCE (Mr. Pea), TYLER WAAGE (Diego), NORA BURNS (Bev Everly), ISABEL LODGE (Binky), BURGANDY WILLIAMS (Kitten Control), CELSO SATORI (Bartender), VINCENT MILLER (Candy Man), DAN KRSTYEN (Roxie), JAMES KASTON (Jon), SHARON NIESP (Mom), JUSTIN LAW (Security), GASTON SOUFFRANT and ANTHONY DECARLIS.
TRINKETS is set during a time when acceptance of a fringe group by the straight world was often little to none; as such, many drag and transsexual females were given no opportunity for real employment. In order for them to make a living, sex work was a common choice. The audience is introduced to a moment in the lives of an ensemble of characters in a story highlighting the tragedies and hardship faced by these brave defying individuals. And we witness them coming together as a small community to do the right thing.
TRINKETS will perform on a Thursday through Sunday schedule. The run of the show is January 11 through February 3, all performances at 7pm. Tickets are $40 ($30 students/seniors). 10 tickets for every performance available for $20 (at the door). CASH SALES AT THE DOOR ONLY. Please note there is no preformance on Thursday, January 25th. Tickets are available online at Brown Paper Tickets by calling 917-841-7567 or going to: https://m.bpt.me/event/3202688
