Reading the Headlines Interpreting Turkey
Professor Reşat Kasaba will discuss headline news as well as help us read between the lines.
Join us this evening as Reşat introduces us to life in contemporary Turkey. How are government officials and the "people on the street" responding to the numerous issues, challenges, and opportunities Turkey faces in the 21st century? What lies ahead for this beautiful and historical land where east and west meet geographically and culturally? Reşat is a professor of International Studies at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and is the Stanley D. Golub Chair and Director of this esteemed school.
Finally, 2012 study tour participants will discuss the knowledge that they gleaned from their travels to Turkey and how to teach this amazing and complex culture. Modern Turkey with all of its richness and complexityas well as Turkey's centuries old history and cultural traditionsis often unknown to Americans. Four educators in the audience will soon be packing their bags. Istanbul or bust!
