Snap on 2&4 w/ Charles "Wigg" Walker - Friday, February 8
Friday, February 8 is the first of two nights of world class music at NJW with renowned soul singer Charles "Wigg" Walker! The local legend will be backed by the incredible organ trio of Charles Treadway on the Hammond B3, guitarist Pat Bergeson, and drummer Pete Abbott.

Charles Walker is one of the few remaining original soul singers from back in the day when "old school" was brand new. He is a consummate entertainer with a resumé far too extensive to list. A Nashville native, Charles cut his first record here in 1959 for Ted Jarrett's legendary Champion labels. In 1960 he moved to New York City, where he worked regularly in both the recording studios and nightclubs. In 1962, he was recording with Chess Records and soon signed as lead singer with the J.C. Davis Band, with whom he toured the country opening for many of the all-time greats of the era, including James Brown, Etta James, Wilson Pickett, and Otis Redding, just to name a few.

Charles formed his own group, Little Charles and the Sidewinders in 1964. They became one of the most in-demand soul bands in New York City, performing regularly at the legendary Apollo Theater and Small's Paradise, as well as venturing out to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. The band worked together throughout the 60's and reformed again in 1973. In 1979, Charles was signed with Motown records as a staff writer. Having moved back to Nashville in the early 90's following many more years of touring and recording, Charles is widely recognized as the vocalist fronting the popular retro funk band, the Dynamites.

Joining Charles for this special Snap on 2&4 weekend will be an outstanding trio. In a town famous for guitarists, Pat Bergeson stands out as one of the best. A band leader and recording artist in his own right, he worked extensively with the great Chet Atkins and has recorded and toured with many more of the greats of jazz, pop, and country music. On the Hammond B3 organ will be Charles Treadway, who has established a reputation as one of the area's finest on the instrument, and rounding out the trio will be drummer Pete Abbott (Average White Band; Blood, Sweat, and Tears; Tom Jones; Larry Carlton; Keb Mo; and others).

It's going to be a weekend of soul, jazz, and funk that is not to be missed!

The show will consist of two sets, beginning at 8pm, and admission is $20 for adults / $10 Students with ID.
