Politics and Prose and Sixth & I Present AMY CHUA with J.D. VANCE
In POLITICAL TRIBES, Amy Chua, lawyer and author of the acclaimed and controversial BATTLE HYMN OF THE TIGER MOTHER, turns her attention to human tribalism. The U.S., she argues, is unusual in viewing geopolitics in terms of large-scale ideologies, which leads us to overlook divisions like that between Shia and Sunni Muslims in Iraq. And at home, identity politics on both ends of the political spectrum threaten to pull apart the consensus that has united Americans around a set of democratic principles. According to Chua, our future depends on understanding- and working past - our innate tribalism.
Chua will be in conversation with J.D. Vance, author of HILLBILLY ELEGY.
