The Vude is thrilled to be hosting Chef Sam Crannell of Queen Anne's Lloyd Martin on Sunday, January 27th. Known for his culinary inventions, Sam is sure to entice and inspire your appetite through his clever use of locally sourced produce, exotic game meats and house made ingredients. Sam's deep passion for creating authentic and explorative dishes is sure to reach a new paradigm as he prepares a unique menu in collaboration with Hand of God Wines for an unforgettable evening.
Sam's culinary journey commenced at a young age, leading him to enroll in The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, a Le Cordon Bleu affiliate. Upon graduating in 2002, Sam's skills and knowledge earned him the title of sous chef at Atlantique, Chicago Magazine's Best New Restaurant of 2000. From 2003-2009 Sam worked at several notable restaurants in Seattle including Bon Appetit's top gastro-tavern in 2009, Quinn's Pub before becoming head chef at Oddfellows. Sam felt a closer connection to his guests in this small and intimate space, giving rise to a new mindfulness and creativity within his cooking. This newfound approach he employed earned him a nomination for Rising Star Chef in 2009. In 2010 he became the executive chef of 5 Corner Market Bar and Kitchen before opening his own restaurant, Lloyd Martin, in October of 2011.
Lloyd Martin is named after Sam's grandfathers from where he draws his turn-of-the-century culinary inspiration while employing playful and inventive twists. Sam's love for homemade cooking demonstrates simplicity and thoughtfulness as he works with exotic ingredients like elk and truffles. His expertise and consciousness allow him to give new interpretations to old favorites resulting in unparalleled savor. These dynamic dishes will be paired with Hand of God Wines, further enhancing the flavors on your plate. This is the second-ever appearance Hand of God Wines has made in Seattle. These wines come to you from the Achaval-Ferrer Winery in Mendoza, Argentina where Stanford Business School classmates Jon Staenberg and Santiago Achaval were able to combine their passions for culture, food and wine. The duo sought out to create wines that emulate their love for the Argentinian countryside, characterized by mystery, magic, history, earth and sun.
Oh, and we have once again partnered with our friends at Caffe Ladro Roasting to provide a one-of-a-kind gourmet coffee specially made for this event. Chemex brewers will showcase this coffee's smooth clean cocoa flavors-a great finishing touch to what promises to be a spectacular evening. You won't want to miss Caffe Ladro's parting gifts either! The suggested price for this 5-course, drinks-paired meal is $125 (which is inclusive of tips and taxes).
