BRYAN BOWERS
The crockery is rattling! Cement dust is puffing off the basement floor! The dishwater is sloshing! But at the same time, the wind is whistling sweetly, and the birds are tweeting their tiny hearts out. Whose giant but musical footfalls are approaching Madison? Do they belong to Pecos Bill with a piccolo? Is it Paul Bunyan with a lute maybe, or John Henry the steel-drivin man and his ocarina? No! By golly! Its Bryan Bowers, towering folk figure, returning to charm all Madison with his spellbinding autoharp and unforgettable singing!
Bowers' mastery of the autoharp has put him in a league of his own instrumentally. Its almost jarring at first glance, seeing this large imposing fellow lovingly clutching such a delicate instrument to his breast, but once the first chord is struck in accompaniment to the first phrase sung, it becomes delightfully obvious that this combination, though unique, is successful to put it mildly. His playing is recognized internationally as stellar, and has won him induction into Frets Magazines Gallery of the Greats, after winning their readers poll in the Stringed Instrument Open category for five years running.
"His towering six foot four inch frame can be wild and zany on stage while playing a song like `Dixie and five minutes later he can have the same audience singing 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken' in quiet reverence and delight." -- Madfolk News, 2011
