East meets West - a fundraiser for the Himat Initiative - Second Annual
East meets West promises you an extraordinary experience with music from Indigenous Canada, as well as contemporary and folk music from both the East and the West and the poetry of Jalal ad-Din Rumi and much more.

Featuring

Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes and Chantal Chagnon: A powerful mother & daughter duo that call in the welcoming spirit of the people of the land through traditional & contemporary Indigenous song.

New Street: The new wave of home-grown Calgary music. Original & eclectic, combining funky folk blues with country, opera & disco on melodica, clarinet, organ, guitar & standup bass, musicians Adrienne Weare, Dale Ulan, Carmen Marquis & Corry Ulan have played to delighted sellout crowds across the City.

Aya Mhana: This beautiful & gifted Syrian-born singer shares the wandering spirit & traditional sounds of her homeland, now overlaid with deep sadness & soaring hope.

A Reading from Rumi: 14th century mystical poet & founder of Sufism, and now the most famous poet in the world. Readings by Shahab Moeini and Arthur Clark.

Hymn: Back by popular demand, Hymn is a mesmerizing fusion of eastern & western music, woven together like a magic flying carpet by Bijan Maysami, Omid Ebadi, Paya Salem & Vahid Jahanshahi (Iran), Aya Mhana (Syria), Greg Goldenberg (Russia) & Frank Rackow (Canada), singing & playing santoor, precussion & frame drum, oud, violin, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, clarinet & saxophone.

Julian Norris: British-born singer-songwriter & consummate performer, Julians music is both very old & very new, as he brings together his Celtic roots with his poetic sensibilities & his passion for world-embracing transforming, beginning from within.

An international menu of fine foods will be served.

Fabulous silent auctions will tempt you.

This is a great opportunity to meet friends that you already know and those that you are meeting for the first time

It is a fundraiser for the Himat Peace-building Initiative in northern Pakistan. Please visit www.fourworlds.ca/himat.html for more information about this extremely cost-effective and result-oriented program that is working with 120 remote, high mountain villages to strengthen livelihood, build human resources and ignite a spark of hope and a vision of positive possibility.

Please buy your tickets early. We sold out last year and had to turn some people away.
