Anna & Elizabeth w/Ian Fitzgerald
"This is pure folk music - it doesnt get much better than this." -Folk Alley
Through their immersive creative process and bold interpretations, Anna & Elizabeth's visionary partnership pioneers new ways of presenting old songs and stories to modern audiences. Since 2011, with a deep and shared love of old Appalachian music, they stand at the vanguard of tradition and the avant-garde, transforming traditional music with innovative, modern arrangements. The magic of this duo comes from the unique strengths of each artist: Elizabeth LaPrelle, lauded as the finest traditional singer of her generation, is rooted in rural Virginia and a lifetime of singing ballads. Master instrumentalist and band arranger Anna Roberts-Gevalt's musical path has led her from the kitchens of Kentucky banjo elders to sessions in Brooklyn's thriving experimental music world. Anna & Elizabeth are touring in support of their forthcoming release, The Invisible Comes to Us (March 30, 2018), a continuing progression of their evolving sound. Their captivating performance which integrates visual art and movement with breathtaking harmonies is not to be missed.
Providence, RI-based folk artist Ian Fitzgerald opens the show. Hailed as "the songwriter's songwriter" by the Newport Folk Festival, Ian has crisscrossed the country, performing in 39 states over the past two years as both a solo act and as the leader of Ian Fitzgerald & Something Else. With five albums of skillfully composed original material to his name, Ian has shared the stage with Iris DeMent, Joan Shelley, Willy Mason, Darlingside, The Ballroom Thieves, and many more.
This show is part of the Warren Sessions presented by Common Fence Music at Hope & Main in Warren, RI. Doors open at 7:30pm, show starts at 8pm. This show is BYOB; snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.
