A Christmas Carol Benefit for St. Mary's
Excellent Creature will stage a reading of Charles Dickens holiday masterpiece, A Christmas Carol, at St. Marys Episcopal Church for a one-night-only benefit, December 16 at 7:00 pm.
Christine Bokhour and Greg Miller adapted the novella into a one-man show in 2014, adhering religiously to Dickens original text. They debuted to rave reviews at the Philipstown Depot Theatre with Bokhour directing Miller.
First published in 1843, Dickens well-loved tale centers on greedy money-lender, Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by a series of spirits representing his deceased business partner and Christmases past, present, and future. The experience transforms Scrooge from a curmudgeonly miser to an enduring symbol of redemption and generosity.
A Christmas Carol is credited with originating many of the western worlds festive Christmas traditions, but more importantly reminds us that avarice is antithetical to the true Christian values of family, love and charity.
The lions share of the funds raised by this event will benefit St. Marys and the remainder will go towards funding Excellent Creatures future productions.
