Paper Puppet Opera presents Winterreise
Come see one of the darkest pieces of music in the classical canon presented through bleak shadow puppet abstraction: Franz Schubert's Winterreise. David Hoffman (baritone) and Peter Nelson-King (pianist) join us once again to bring you all 24 songs in this cycle about romantic rejection, winter wandering, and existential angst. All puppets designed and created by Juliana Brandon. Both performances are at Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Seattle in their parish hall. This production will be sung in German with English super titles. Probably not for kids.
Ten percent of all ticket sales go to Protect Our Winters to combat the effects of climate change.
A strobe light will be used in this performance.
Opera glasses or binoculars recommended as some puppets are somewhat small.
Juliana will be selling her new book, "Winter From Above: Meditations on Winterreise with Franz Schubert" at the show. Coming up with inspiration for all 24 songs required some strange techniques, and the results can be found in this weird little volume.
