Stairway of the Stars BAND Night Concert, THURSDAY, MARCH 7th, 2013
For over 64 years, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has produced an annual musical extravaganza to share the outstanding music education programs in the district with the community that provides much of the support. The district's excellent music programs are featured in three nights of concerts called "Stairway of the Stars" at Santa Monica High School's historic Barnum Hall auditorium. The Thursday night program consists of an Elementary Honor Band as well as Middle and High School Bands.
ONLY ELEMENTARY HONOR BAND GROUPS, AND MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL BANDS WILL PERFORM THURSDAY EVENING.
Elementary, Middle, and High School Orchestras will perform on Wednesday night only.
Elementary, Middle, and High School Choirs will perform on Friday night only.
Over the three nights, there are approximately 1,000 student performers involved in the Stairway concerts. The 2013 concert will actually be the 64th Annual Stairway-of-the-Stars!
This year, the concerts will take place on March 6th, 7th, and 8th, from 7:00 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. In previous years, the Stairway concert was held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, but due to the recent closure of the Civic, the concert will be held this year in Barnum Hall on the Santa Monica High School campus. Each year, a guest conductor is featured to work with the district's students and this year, with the Choir as the focus, Chris Peterson, Professor of Music at California State University, Fullerton, will serve as the 2013 Stairway Guest Conductor at the Friday night Stairway Choir Concert.
The 2013 Stairway Honor Award Recipient will be the Santa Monica Kiwanis Club. This will be the 64th year that Kiwanis has celebrated the SMMUSD music students with awards and recognition in their annual "Kiwanis Solo Competition." The Santa Monica-Malibu USD is extremely fortunate to have the support of the Santa Monica Kiwanis Club and recognition for all their years of support is long overdue.

Stairway online advance ticket sales are available to families of students performing in Stairway. Each student performer may purchase up to two tickets during the online advance ticket sales period with their student ID code, for the night of their performance ONLY, on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. Families with more than one student performing may purchase up to two tickets per performing student for each night the student is performing only.
For families wishing to purchase additional tickets, a limited number of remaining tickets will be made available to the general public starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Barnum Hall box office on each event night. Tickets will be sold each evening at the box office ONLY for that evening's performance. Thus, on Wednesday, March 6th, tickets will ONLY be sold for the Wednesday Stairway Orchestra concert, and on Thursday, March 7th, tickets will ONLY be sold for Thursday's Stairway Band concert. Likewise, on Friday, March 8th, tickets will ONLY be sold for Friday's Stairway Choir concert. Ticket price is $15.00 each, cash or check only at the box office.
