Inspired by a ritual experienced by Dohee Lee on Jeju Island in 2018, this performance and installation will be an evocation a calling of the spirits. Participants gather around the altar and set intentions upon a two-year ritual process (2018-2020) as part of the MU/: 9 Goddesses project.
Dohee Lees solo performance features electronic soundscape and visual projections mediated by SensorPlay, designed by Adria Otte, Dohee Lee, Carole Kim and Donald Swearingen. Altar and production design by Dana Kawano, Dohee Lee and Jose Maria Francos.
MU/: 9 Goddesses is a collaboration between Puri Arts, Peralta Hacienda Historical Park and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, supported by funding from Hewlett 50 Arts Commission in Music, NEFA National Dance Project, MAP Fund, Guggenheim Foundation, California Arts Council Cultural Pathways, and our generous Puri Arts community.
Live Arts in Resistance is a performance series produced by EastSide Arts Alliance and NAKA Dance Theater at the EastSide Cultural Center. The series is supported in part by The Zellerbach Family Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Caw Foundation.
