Two Black Towers (shorts)
Two Black Towers SHORT VIDEO MIN -Programmed by Jennet Thomas
"I began with a personal challenge: to make a film in response to a favorite short film, The Black Tower by John Smith. This seminal work of British experimental filmmaking from 1987 is dastardly clever and weirdly haunting. It features a man who believes he is being followed around London by a tower and is a tour-de- force in the idea of what film can signal by what it does NOT represent. My Return takes some of these concerns and pursues them through the prism of my own world view, and features confessions from a cult of individuals who are experiencing indescribable perceptual anomalies of a dark and complex nature.
"This program builds outwards from some of the themes in our two works: Ken Nordines Word Jazz piece from 1957 uncannily echoes some of the ideas of collapsing space and mind, Shana Moultons alter ego explores the hidden supernatural powers of household objects, and Owen Lands jaw-droppingly smart labyrinth of a film screws with the mind of the Avant Garde film audience in the most delightful way." - Jennet Thomas
