The Boulevard Theatre, located at 2252 S. Kinnickinnic, continues its 27th season with the Milwaukee premiere of acclaimed playwright Joe DiPietro's heartwarming comedy THE LAST ROMANCE (running just two weeks from Wed, February 20th through Sun, March 3rd, 2013).
This charming and affecting comedy about discovering love later in life is by the author of numerous hit plays and books for smash musicals (OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS; MEMPHIS; I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE; and countless others). DiPietro's ROMANCE script has won accolades for its ability to present a play about serious issues (aging, end-of-life challenges, isolation and loneliness) with both comic flair and respect for these darker issues which reside beneath the surface of this appealing story line.
The impressive local cast includes some of Milwaukee's finest acting talent, including Michael Weber as "Ralph," Anita Domnitz as "Carol," Barbara Weber as "Rose," and Doug Clemons as "the young man."
The Story: On an ordinary day in a routine life, Ralph decides to take a different path on his daily walk--one that leads him to an unexpected second chance at love. Relying on a renewed boyish charm, Ralph attempts to woo the elegant, but distant Carol, despite the objections of his sister, Rose. Defying Carol's reticence--and his lonely sister's jealousy--Ralph embarks on the trip of a lifetime, and regains a happiness that seemed all but lost.
