BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet with The Carnivaleros
The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association is pleased to present grammy-winning Cajun superstars BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet on January 27 at El Casino Ballroom in Tucson, Arizona. Local favorites the Carnivaleros open the show at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20 (advance) / $25 (at the door). Proceeds benefit the 2018 Tucson Folk Festival, one of the oldest free Americana and Folk music festivals in the country.
For the past 40 years, BeauSoleil, featuring multi-talented Michael Doucet, has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet. Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members, and created and driven by bandleader Michael spellbinding fiddle playing and soulful vocals, Beausoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet. BeauSoleils distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz, blues rock, folk, swamp pop, Zydeco, country and bluegrass, captivating listeners from the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans, to Carnegie Hall, then all the way across the pond to Richard Thompsons Meltdown Festival in England.
Since becoming the first Cajun band to win a GRAMMY with Lamour Ou La Folie (Traditional Folk Album 1998) and then a second Grammy in 2010, Live at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, BeauSoleil has garnered many accolades, including twelve GRAMMY nominations, the latest being their 2009 release Alligator Purse. They have been regular guests on Garrison Keillors National Public Radio show A Prairie Home Companion, where Keillor has dubbed them as the best Cajun band in the world. ,Their music is so integral to the Cajun culture that they have also been featured on the New Orleansbased hit HBO program Treme. Critics unanimously agree that it is bon temps, every time they play, (New York Times).
BeauSoleil will be making its first return to the southwest since it headlined the 28th Tucson Folk Festival in 2013. They will also be returning to Tucson's famed El Casino Ballroom and its huge wooden dance floor where they played to raucous dance crowds in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Opening the show will be Tucson's own Carnivaleros. Combining Eastern European motifs, western movie themes, and stories of our shared American experience with strains of Zydeco rhythms, Tex-Mex polkas, waltzes and swing, the band has created a stew of what they like to call Desert Bayou Music.
This will be General Admission show with seating available on folding chairs at tables. Food for purchase will also be available through food trucks in the parking lot. Although adult beverages will be available for purchase with proper ID, this is also a family friendly all-ages show.
