Pete and Paul, A Fargenign: Yiddish Swing Dance Party
In 1937, Yiddish swing swept the nation with the #1 hit by the Andrews Sisters, Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen, the only Yiddish song ever to top the American charts. The craze launched a weekly radio show Yiddish Melodies in Swing, as well as the careers of the genres leading performers the Barry Sisters. Yiddish New York celebrates this uniquely American art form with a special dance party. Music will be provided by acclaimed saxophonist Paul Shapiros Ribs & Brisket Revue and Pete Socolows Yiddish American Jass Band with renowned Yiddish vocalists/Broadway stars Eleanor Reissa (Indecent) and Joanne Borts (Once), the amazing jazz vocalists Tamar Korn (The Cangelosi Cards, Brain Cloud, Kornucopia) and Cilla Owens (as smooth as Nancy Wilson, as authoritative as Sarah Vaughan, and as informed as Carmen McRae Jazz Times).
