ABOUT ROOTS EN ROUTE
Roots en Route is an exciting multi-disciplinary arts festival celebrating Black History Month 2013 in Hamilton, ON, Canada. The festival places the spotlight on diasporic artists with diverse and shifting relationships to Africa highlighting rich cultural landscapes and histories while providing a platform for Black Canadian artists from various geographical and cultural backgrounds to present their work in one program.
ABOUT ZAL SISSOKHO
Zal Idrissa Sissokho comes from Senegal and is of the Sissokho griot family that has passed down the music and stories of the Mandinko people for hundreds of years. Sissokho embodies the traditions and background of this culture and has an incredible talent for improvisation. Zal plays the kora and sings melodies in both the Malinke and Wolof languages, inspired by the traditions of West Africa.
