#HomeGrownFruit: Citrus Workshop for the Home Gardener and Small-Scale Grower
Add some zest to your garden or small-scale orchard! Join us  for a workshop at the UC Santa Cruz Hay Barn focused on citrus. The workshop will include a tasting of locally grown citrus varieties.

Workshop instructors are Orin Martin, manager of UCSC's Alan Chadwick Garden, and Daniel Paduano, owner of Abounding Harvest Mountain Farm. Orin Martin has been teaching and writing about organic gardening and fruit tree growing for more than 40 years. Daniel Paduano grows a wide variety of citrus on his farm in the Santa Cruz Mountains for such local favorites as Penny Ice Creamery, Ristorante Avanti, and The Picnic Basket.

Workshop participants will learn about the best varieties of citrus (lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines, and more) for the Monterey Bay region; how to select and prepare a planting site; how to plant; and how to irrigate, fertilize, prune, and control pests and diseases in a range of citrus trees.

Workshop Cost:
Cost of the workshop is $35 general admission (pre-registered) or $40 (at the door); $25 for Friends of the Farm & Garden members, and certified UC Master Gardeners (pre-registered) or $30 (at the door);  $15 for UCSC students, beginning farmers, and limited-income (pre-registered) or $20 (at the door). Free for life members of the Friends of the Farm & Garden and active Farm & Garden docents.
