Songwriters on Stage
Each month, the Maine Songwriters' Association presents Songwriters on Stage, a showcase of some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. The show typically features three seasoned performers and an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It's an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. The December concert will feature all seasoned performers: Lisa Redfern, Kate Miller, Carter Ruff, and Max Ater.

Lisa Redfern
Lisa Redfern is an award-winning singer-songwriter based in Maine.
With 11 solo recordings (9 CDs and 2 early cassettes) to her credit so far, (the most recent being Chickadee with all originals) she is a singer who blends her roots in folk, bluegrass, country, gospel, blues, jazz and swing to create something unmistakably her own. Lisas recordings have garnered positive critical review and radio play. She has also made several TV appearances. She has added her clear, beautiful voice to dozens of other artists projects and song compilations and has opened for many notables, including Pete Seeger, Dave Mallett, The Roches, Cindy Kallet, and Livingston Taylor. You may have heard Lisa as part of the Sweet Chariot Music Festival on Swans Island or as producer & performer of her monthly Songwriters in the Round series at Frontier in Brunswick (which enjoyed 5 years of success). Lisa was recently commissioned to write a ballad (which became Full Circle Fire) for Penobscot and WW2 hero, Charles Shay, and was honored to sing it for him at a DDay ceremony in Normandy, France. Shes creator and host of Gingersnap: A Conversation and a Cookie with a Creative Mainer, a video podcast that has run for two years and gets thousands of views. Awards: Best Song - Northern California Songwriters Association, Finalist in both the Great American Song Contest and the USA Songwriting Competition, and a NAPPA Gold and a Parents Choice Silver for her lullaby CD. Her CDs are available at www.lisaredfern.com or through CDBABY.com

Kate Miller
Kate Millers lyrical and melodic songwriting is rooted in a love of writing poetry which started at an early age. Her songs are informed by truthfully relating to what life brings along and her connection to the natural world. As a lifelong and professional gardener, she has had plenty of opportunity to observe the rhythms that govern life, growth and change. She recently recorded a CD, Walk in the Light with songwriter/musician Dave Bullard; has performed in a wide variety of local venues, and appeared community television programs.

Carter Ruff
Carter Ruff stopped thinking of himself as a songwriter several years ago. Since that time, he's written more songs than when he called himself a songwriter. His influences range from Son House to Seamus Heaney. He has a new album (Light Shine Through) coming out soon with blues trio Red Beans and Rice, and he builds guitars at Subterranean Music Works.

Max Ater
Recently signing on with Michigan-based label Prudential Records, 24-year-old Pop phenom Max Ater is on the rise. Capturing audiences with his award-winning voice and music, Max is quickly becoming a sensation throughout New England and beyond. His latest release, "Easy" is available for streaming on Spotify and can be downloaded on iTunes.

Born and raised on the coast of Maine, Max Ater began playing piano at the age of six. No stranger to the stage, Max filled his youth with community theatre, vocal training, and hours a day behind the piano. At an early age, Max was inspired by artists such as Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones, John Mayer, and Elton John. In high school he began composing original music, which led to an array of accolades.

Spending his days writing music for his upcoming album and performing throughout his home-state of Maine, 2017 is looking like a breakout year for Max.
