King John by William Shakespeare
John, King of England, was the son of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. He ruled in troubled times when England and France battled for supremacy. Shakespeares play was one of his most popular during Victorian times, partly because of its spectacle and pageantry. Today, however, its a rarely performed gem, and LBSC is pleased to present it to see what you, our audience, think of it. In 1942, George Orwell described it: With its intrigues and doublecrossings, non-aggression pacts, people changing sides in the middle of a battle, and what-not, it seemed to me extraordinarily up to date.
