At 2am on January 1st, 1959, US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista and his associates hurried onto a small plane & fled Cuba once and for all. They had realized their defeat by the revolutionary Rebel Army led by Fidel Castro was inevitable, & this became the first New Years Eve where the masses of Cuban people were able to celebrate the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. 59 years later, Cubans alongside people around the world celebrate the date & the incredible achievements of the Cuban Revolution that has inspired millions of people around the world to struggle for a better world, as well as looking forward to another year of great effort for peace, equality & social justice.
Since 2005, Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba has organized an annual Cuban New Years Eve Celebration in this same spirit. The event has continued to grow every year, bringing together hundreds of people to celebrate the Cuban Revolution!

A las 2 de la madrugada del 1 de enero de 1959, el dictador respaldado por Estados Unidos, Fulgencio Batista y sus asociados se apresuraron a abordar un pequeño avión y huyeron de Cuba de una vez por todas. Habían comprendido que su derrota por parte del Ejército Rebelde Revolucionario liderado por Fidel Castro era inevitable, y esto se convirtió en la primera vispera de año nuevo en la que las masas cubanas pudieron celebrar el triunfo de la revolución cubana. 59 años después, cubanos junto a personas de todo el mundo celebran la fecha y los increíbles logros de la revolución cubana que han inspirado a millones de personas en todo el mundo a luchar por un mundo mejor, y esperamos otro año de gran esfuerzo por la paz, igualdad y justicia social.
Desde 2005, Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba ha organizado una celebración anual de Vispera de Año Nuevo Cubana con este mismo espíritu. ¡El evento ha seguido creciendo cada año, reuniendo a cientos de personas para celebrar la Revolución Cubana!
