As part of this event, Thompson Street Opera Company will be presenting the Chicago Premiere of UNCLE ALEX,by award-winning composer Joshua Bornfield. This 20-minute opera tells the story of Russian immigrants in the early 20th century, who brave terrible hardship to come to America, only to encounter a harsh immigration official once they land. The incredibly beautiful music and moving libretto emphasize our shared humanity and the power of compassion. The work was commissioned by Washington National Opera as part of the American Opera Initiative in 2013.
