CORKY SIEGEL & HOWARD LEVY Dec 30 2017
Pop the Cork! Ho! Ho! Ho-ward ! Back by Pop-ular demand, the maestros of musical mirth and merriment Corky Siegel and Howard Levy return. Blues legend CORKY SIEGEL teams with jazz giant, multi-Grammy winner HOWARD LEVY for a holiday evening of pure dazzlement and delight. Siegel is a national treasure. Downbeat Magazine A memorable musical joy rideSiegel plays wonderfully on harmonica as well as piano and combines it with a grand sense of humor and showmanship. San Francisco Examiner Howard Levy has almost single-handedly developed the full jazz potential of the diatonic harmonica.although he cites McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock as influences, Levy, the pianist has a sunnier more ebullient style than either, enlivened by an unfailing upward momentum. Jazz Times Magazine
The contrasting musical conversations between these two giants of jazz and blues, both who are stellar performers on harmonica and piano, has proven to be a riveting edge-of-your-seat experience. Individuality, uniqueness, playfulness and adventure, are all trademarks of both the stylings of Siegel and Levy. They draw the audience in with an intimacy to their performance in a way that only old friends of several decades with a special connection can. They constantly entertain with a grand sense of humor while dazzling you with sheer jaw-dropping skill and virtuosity.
Corky Siegel is, of course, the award-winning composer who, at a very young age, learned his craft at the feet of such legendary first generation bluesmen as Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf and as a part of Siegel-Schwall Band. With his Chamber Blues ensemble, he is credited with moving the blues from smokey clubs onto the classical concert stage and obliterating musical categorization in the process.
Howard Levy is probably best known as a founding member of the GRAMMY winning group Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. He has recorded with a long list of greats such as Paul Simon and Dolly Parton, as well as frequent guest appearances performing on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion weekly National Public Radio show.
