"Rosebud: The Lives of Orson Welles is a show not to be missed, and Van Beuzekom's performance is one to be hailed as brilliant and true."
The Port Townsend/Jefferson County Leader

". . . the shows hinges on Van Beuzekom's credibility, and he never wavers. He is by turns charming, hilarious and chilling. . . it's an evening of theater not to be missed."
 The Kitsap Sun

Rosebud: The Lives of Orson Welles won the 'Best of Edinburgh' award as well as ' The Carol Tambor Edinbugh to New York Award' in 2005.

The Paradise Theatre School from Chimacum, Washington presents a solo performance about artistic renegade Orson Welles. Mark Jenkins's play, Rosebud: The Lives of Orson at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Feb 15 - 24.

In the minds of many Americans Orson Welles was an obese man who made wine commercials. For Europeans, film buffs and theatre fans he was an auteur who changed the landscape of the American stage and cinema. His Paul Masson wine days are only a tiny part of the man's continued contribution to American cultural and political history. From his legendary radio production of "War of the Worlds" to his much-publicized battle with tycoon William Randolph Hearst and his considered run for Wisconsin Senator against Joseph McCarthy, Welles made the most of his life as a social maverick.

His radical stage direction of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and Macbeth, as well as pro-union his production of The Cradle Will Rock were at the forefront of performance innovation. These stories and all of Welles' fabled escapades are packed into Rosebud's lean 90 minutes.

Rosebud: The Lives of Orson Welles capture's Welles' ascension as a young genius to his slow Hollywood downfall. Jenkins's lush text and Van Beuzekom's complex portrayal of this legendary figure forces the audience to look at their own willingness to risk, to look at our country's attitude to artists, and ask ourselves - How is the creative life relevant?  Each performance is followed by a question and answer session.
This production has mature themes and is suitable for high school age and up.
