Night Tide (for Sailors, Mermaids, Mystics) DIR DREW HEITZLER EXPERIMENTAL VIDEO 17:09 MIN Night Tide (for Sailors, Mermaids, Mystics) is a re-edit of the 1963 Curtis Harrington film Night Tide starring Dennis Hopper and Linda Lawson. Aping the early Soviet cine-club practice of re-editing western newsreels in order to create new narrative films or Soviet propaganda, this new film uses Venice Beacha lost mecca of amusement ruined by a depression-era oil rush and subsequent bustas a backdrop for a surreal dream- scape of Pynchonesque paranoia, interconnection, and comedic horror, through which a navy-uniformed Dennis Hopper wanders in pursuit of both Eros and Thanatos in weird, old L.A. - D.H.
