Event
Poetry & Coffee: Tuesday, November 28, 2017 | WOMEN AND POETRY
This event is a dinner my private home. Food and beverages will be prepared for you. Please reserve a ticket and I will provide you with the address and directions.
Bring a poem about a woman. Or many women. Or ALL women. A poem about being a woman. About violence/abuse against women. Oppression of women. About womanhood. Coming into womanhood. The feminine. Feminism. Any poem that is WOMAN! Interpret the theme broadly. There is no wrong poem. All are welcome! **The only rule is that the poem cannot be your own work.**
Poetry & Coffee is a simple concept. It's a group of people who get together over food and drinks, each bringing a poem of their choice to read and discuss. **The only rule is that the poem cannot be your own work.** Please bring 20 copies of the poem to share with the group.
We read, we talk. Simple as that. And that is where the simplicity ends, as each Poetry & Coffee gathering takes on a life of its own and consistently becomes magical beyond all expectation.
Tickets are free but you must have one to attend. Event is from 6pm-9pm.
Menu: Zucchini Parmesan Green Salad Bread Apple Dumplings
Two ways to participate:
Read Poem/ Discussion: You bring a poem to read to the group and bring photocopies to share. You also participate in the discussion.**
Discussion Only: You participate in the discussion of the poems. You can also just listen, if you wish.
**If you would like to bring a poem, it is on a first-to-get-a-ticket basis. (It's like signing up at an open mic. The earlier you get your ticket, the closer you will be to the top of the list.)
We have time to read 7 poems at each Poetry & Coffee. If someone signs up to bring a poem but does not show, the person next on the list will read their poem. If there are more than 7 people with poems and you do not get to read your poem, I will post it on the Poetry & Coffee website for public discussion.
"I have tried to remember throughout that poetry is made by flesh-and-blood human beings. It is a bloody art. It lives on a human scale and thrives when it is passed from hand to hand." - Edward Hirsch
