SOUTHERN GOTHIC NOVEL: The Aberdeen, Mississippi Sex-Slave Incident
The Visceral Company is thrilled to present the Los Angeles premiere of SOUTHERN GOTHIC NOVEL: The Aberdeen Mississippi Sex-Slave Incident, a hilarious recounting of a series of awful events that beset a small southern town.
Conceived, written and performed by New York stage veteran Frank Blocker (Stabilized Not Controlled; Suite Atlanta; Eula Mae's Beauty, Bait & Tackle), SOUTHERN GOTHIC NOVEL earned a New York Drama Desk nomination for best solo show.
In SOUTHERN GOTHIC NOVEL, Blocker plays 17 different characters from the small town of Aberdeen, Mississippi all within the space of an hour delivering dialogue in rapid fire and myriad regional accents. He also uses skilled pantomime to create every conceivable piece of scenery and action, even a knock-drag-out fight between four characters and a hostage.
There are 5,218 people living in Aberdeen, Mississippi. This is the story of 17 of them and the men that caused all the trouble.
The whole thing started when Viola Haygood, the town's assistant librarian, fell in love for the umpteenth time. This one was new in town, but the dark coincidence of his arrival caused the locals to comment.
Someone was kidnapping Aberdeen's young women, prompting the townfolk to lock the stately front entries of their antebellum homes and aluminum screen doors of their double-wide trailers. They would have called in the FBI but didn't have to, as that organization already had an office in Aberdeen.
This was a town in an uproar, with dirty deeds being done dirt cheap. Women snapped up and carted off to who knows where. FBI and reporters descending like locusts. Lawyers locking and loading. And one actor plays them all.
