Bet Ya Ungodly Things
Gay City Arts presents: Bet Ya Ungodly Things by Neve Andromeda Mazique-Bianco
Bet Ya UnGodly Things is a multigenre dance fable set in the New Jersey countryside where Neve grew up Black, Disabled, Queer, and wanting to be an acting ballerina. Clinton is the town from which Assata Shakur escaped prison, and she, like other black liberation activists, called this place Up South.
On July 3, 1867, a South Carolina town flooded for a month, only stopping when the townspeople released a mysterious mermaid from a local doctors lab. What if shifts in the atmosphere were affected by the repression of crucial parts of ourselves?
Experimenting with ballet, character studies, folk magic, and (ir)reverent a capella, Neve reimagines their hometown experience, and stages a hope that integrating our demons and healing ourselves could also heal our environment.
