Albatross presents a varied and joyful holiday celebration concert with members of the Mendonoma Chamber Singers and more. You will hear classical music, contemporary music, and get to join in the fun with a sing-along AND a kazoo-along!
This will be the first Holiday Concert for the hard-working duo Albatross, but it promises to be a rollicking good time. In their signature style, theyll blend timeless classics with lesser-known treasures. Theyll also be joined by the beloved local group, the Mendonoma Chamber Singers. This program will feature Samuel Barbers Hermit Songs, with text pulled from medieval monks scribbles in their bibles, and some of your favorite holiday classics. Join them for a sing-a-long, and dont worry if you forget the words. There will never be a kazoo too far away. We are also pleased to Proceeds from this concert will support Artists at Albatross Reach (artistsatalbatrossreach.com), the creative arts residency series.
Albatross (Jennifer Beattie, mezzo-soprano and Adam Marks, piano)
Albatross (Jennifer Beattie and Adam Marks) is a voice/piano duo exploring and expanding art song as a corner of the chamber music world and beyond. As soloists in their own right, Adam has been called an excellent pianist with titanic force by The New York Times, and Jennifers performance of Mahlers das Lied von der Erde with Argento Chamber Ensemble was called one of the top 10 performances in New York City (NY Classical Review) in 2015. Together they concertize (the San Francisco Examiner called them a smashing success) and co-direct Artists at Albatross Reach, an artists colony that fosters collaborations, experiments, and boundary-breaking new works alongside active community engagement, in Gualala, CA.
Current projects for Albatross include the development of a new multi-media work by Juraj Kojs inspired by the twisted history of the Black Queen in Slovakia, and a deep dive into repertoire of all genres composed by women in the Americas. Basically, you might see them perform Brahms, then sing through tubes into the piano on the same program.
In addition to performing and curating, Albatross is committed to working with young composers and performers to develop the next generation of vocal chamber music repertoire and interpreters. As artists-in-residence at Yale, they regularly instruct the composers on text setting, and premiere new works in the Beinecke Rare Books Library. They have also served on the faculty of New Music On The Point in Vermont, and frequently give masterclasses in partnership and communication as well as performance while on tour. Concert tickets are $15 in advance, $5 more day of the performance.
Youth age 7-17 are $5 in advance, $5 more day of the performance.
