Dou Amal
World-renowned pianists will highlight the next chapter in the talented lineup of the Community Series. Duo Amal will be in concert Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Wynne Chapel on the campus of Austin College.
International concert pianists Yaron Kohlberg and Bishara Haroni joined together to create the Israeli-Palestinian Piano Duo 'Duo Amal' in 2011 with the hope that through the harmonies of their pianos, they could inspire harmony between their nations.
Protégés of Maestro Zubin Mehta, Haroni and Kohlberg first collaborated in a concert for peace in the Opera House in Oslo, Norway, in 2008. This concert was met with such enthusiasm and support that Kohlberg and Haroni decided to create Duo Amal and travel the world spreading their notes of harmony.
Prior to their collaboration, Duo Amal received international recognition as piano virtuosos in their respective homelands, and globally as well. Yaron Kohlberg is the winner of many prestigious international prizes, including the second prize in the 2007 Cleveland International Piano Competition, and first prizes in the Shostakovich Competition in Hanover and the Parnassos International Competition in Monterrey. Bishara Haroni performs regularly in solo recitals and has enjoyed associations with major orchestras in Europe, the United States, Asia and the Middle East, including the London Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Lorin Maazel, the chamber music ensemble with Maestro Daniel Barenboim, and the Israel Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta.
Duo Amal will perform one night only in Sherman Saturday, Feb. 16 -- at 7:30 p.m. in Wynne Chapel on the campus of Austin College. Tickets can be purchased at the door: Students - $5, General Admission - $10. This event is sponsored in part by the Sanders Endowment.
