Naturalism in Improvisation Weekend
A specialist course for the long bank holiday weekend: come find the fun and the ease of improvising scenes that are so close to yourself, even you may not know if you are improvising or not! Working with realistic, grounded scenes and elements of theatre training, this course will license your natural eccentricity and help you to find the power of behaving naturally onstage. Using simple exercises, you will relax into your natural stage persona, embrace what is already there and extend your playing range. Guided by Heather Urquhart (The Maydays, Showstopper! the Improvised Musical) and Jules Munns (The Maydays, Impromptu Shakespeare), this course is for improvisers who want to act and actors who want to improvise.
"I enjoyed being challenged and watching myself begin to develop and/or hone skills that I have seen being used onstage, but never known how to emulate."
Skill learnt on this course will include:
Connecting deeply with your partner and the audience Finding the joy, delight and fun within realistic, grounded situations Playing close to yourself and using your own opinions and responses in scenes Playing intimate and tender relationships between friends, lovers and family members Making tiny adjustments to your body, voice and point of view and seeing how that influences your choice This course is suitable for those who have taken an improv course or two before (ideally our core skills course!) and are looking to deepen their understanding of improvised theatre and comedy. If you are unsure whether this is the course for you, or have any questions drop us an email on jules@thenurserytheatre.com outlining your improvisation and performance experience.
