Boston Area Bee School - Thursdays 2018 (SOLD OUT)

COURSE DESCRIPTION We will cover basic beekeeping techniques, including materials and equipment, hive structure, the life cycle of bees, hive dynamics, seasonal hive management, hive products, common pests and diseases, with an emphasis on treatment-free and ecologically-friendly management techniques. You will learn everything you need to know to set up your own backyard apiary!
COURSE INSTRUCTORS The course will be taught by members of the Boston Area Beekeepers Association. This year's instructors include Bill Perkins, Rachael Bonoan, and other experienced local beekeepers. Past instructors include Mel Gadd, and Dean Stiglitz.
DATES & TIMES Five Thursday evenings February-March from 7:00-8:30pm. Plus three hands-on field dates in March-April.

- Assembling Your Hive at Ag Hall (Jamaica Plain)
- Hiving Package Bees (at the BABA Teaching Apiary at Boston Nature Center)
- First Inspection (at the BABA Teaching Apiary at Boston Nature Center)
LOCATION Urbano Project, 29 Germania Street, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 (located in the Brewery complex on Amory Street, across from Stony Brook T Stop)
COST $165
Course fee includes 5 classroom sessions and 3 hands-on workshops/field days, in addition to exclusive access to numerous resources. If you would like to reserve a hard copy of the text book for an extra $10, please choose the "+ Book" registration option. Free, electronic copies of the book will be made available on the first day of class.
Space is limited! Pre-registration highly recommended as space may fill up and only those pre-registered will be guaranteed a seat.

NOTE: BABA memberships run Oct 1 - Oct 1. If you have not paid dues since Oct 1, 2017, you are not currently a BABA dues-paying member. If you are a BABA dues-paying member, you will receive an email with a code for priority, discounted registration.
SCHOLARSHIPS This year, two Waylon O. Brown Scholarships will be available to interested individuals experiencing financial hardship. Both scholarships will fully cover the cost of Bee School and a hard copy of the textbook. If you are interested in a scholarship, please email a 500-word statement describing your circumstances and why you are interested in beekeeping to Dave Strickler by 11:59 pm on Friday, December 1. You do not have to be a dues-paying BABA member to apply.
