Featured work:
A Piece of My Heart (Breaking) Toronto Premiere Can true love ever be created by one? Desperately seeking an impossible answer, language capitulates, while dance vainly persists. A unique vocabulary of contemporary bboy movement emerges, pushing relentlessly against paralyzing insecurity. Almost immediately, the most condemned vices of hip hop culture: egocentricity and hatred, turn inward with sardonic vengeance. Choreographer and performer: Greg Krypto Selinger (aka bboy Krypto)
"Selinger is an intense b-boy who has reached beyond power moves to embrace a contemporary-dance aesthetic. He told a tale of unrequited love and heartbreak through poetry, melancholy music and remarkable demonstrations of circus\b-boy strength." - Kathryn Greenaway, The Montreal Gazette
Sehnsucht Toronto Premiere Sehnsucht is an addiction to searching and a yearning for what is intensely missing. We wish to show the humanity that lies within the willingness to search through emotionally challenging territory. In this duet we push ourselves to have genuine sehnsucht. Choreographers and performers: Emma Kerson and Ana Groppler
keeping in mind they may be behind you World Premiere Inspired by McCarthyism and other historical 'witch hunts' this piece explores the threatened human's disregard for social pretense in favour of primal instinct. keeping in mind they may be behind you features three of Toronto's most sought after emerging artists. Choreographer: Alysa Pires Performers: Andrea Gregorio, Erin Poole, Kelly Shaw (Sun), Alysa Pires (Sat).
I Be Caribou Toronto Premiere This solo work explores a mythic dreamscape, a life cycle in the wilderness interrupted by technology, a place where two worlds collide. I Be Caribou is played out in a barren landscape where the performer is both animal and human. The movement explores instinct, vulnerability and the sacred interrupted by technology. Choreographer: Constance Cooke Performer: Alisoun Payne
