SF Choral Artists: "Voices of Women" in Oakland
The Choral Artists SFCA has premiered over 170 works and is the 2012 winner of the ASCAP/Chorus America Award for Adventurous Programming, confirming its reputation for eclectic programming and stunning performances of music spanning 600 years. SFCA supports the creation of new choral music and living composers through its New Voices Project and Composer-in-Residence and Composer-Not-in-Residence programs. The ensemble cultivates innovative collaborations and has performed with Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, The Alexander String Quartet, Composers Inc. , Veretski Pass and The Whole Noyse.
Magen Solomon, Artistic Director Under Magen Solomon's leadership since 1995, the Choral Artists have released several recordings, and performed at ACDA and ChorusAmerica conferences. Active as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician, Dr. Solomon is alsoDirector of Choral Activities at Santa Clara University andArtistic Director of the Stockton Chorale &Master Chorale.
2013 Composer-in-Residence Mark Winges composes both vocal and instrumental music, with a slight emphasis on the former. In addition to his work for mixed choir, he has written extensively for treble chorus. He studied composition in the US and Sweden. He is also active as a free-lance organist.
2013 Composer-Not-in-Residence Eleanor Aversa draws inspiration from language and literature, science, and Russian culture. Often spiritual, humorous, or thought-provoking, her music has been performed in 18 cities in 10 states, as well as in Europe. She was SFCA's 2009 New Voices winner.
