In Africa, we do not give titles due to your gender, it is by your works and what you do for the people. The King of our village and the Shamans have determined that you do the work of a King, a man, and not the work of just a Princess or a Queen. - Prince Jean Michel Dissake Dissake, International Artist
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN AFRICA?
During the 21 day journey in Cameroon, from December 17, 2017 to January 7, 2018 Anita Woodley, an African Notable in the Nditam Tikar chiefdom known as Princess with the title of "Bekang", will learn the sacred rituals of her African ancestors.
Various teachers of ancient African culture from the Mountain and Ocean areas of Cameroon, will pass down to Anita the ancient language, naming ceremony traditions, cooking rituals, traditional dances, making and playing of instruments from the forest and more. The rite of passage for King will conclude with Anita being in isolation for 9 days to meditate and receive training about secret tribal ceremonies.
While in the Motherland, Anita Woodley will also facilitate an artistic workshop for locals and perform ceremonies taught to her as a child by her 100-year old great-grandmother.
For the past few months, a notable of the Mountain people of Cameroon has been preparing for Anita's arrival, making traditional clothing, spiritual items, and furniture for the King rite of passage ceremony.
The ocean portion of the ceremony will only be attempted, if the region is safe. If it is not, Anita will return in the summer of 2018, or another time when the area is safe, to complete the traditional ceremony to become King of the ocean people in that region.
