Freehold is privileged to have incredibly talented faculty members and teaching artists who possess a wealth of theatre knowledge. We created the Freehold Forum LIVE! in order to provide our students with an opportunity to gain from their experience and wisdom. Our forums will feature panelists from our teaching community answering questions about the ins and outs of the theatre business as well as producing and working as an actor.
First up on Thursday, January 24, will be: "Doing the Fringe: Benefits and Challenges of producing a show for the Fringe Festival Circuit".
Have you wondered what it would be like to tour a show to one of the many Fringe Festivals around the country or abroad? Want to know the inside scoop of the "do's" and "don'ts" of participating in a festival? How to apply, market, plan, and pack for a show on the road?
Our forum is just the ticket for you!
Our panelists will share their recent experiences on the Fringe Festival Circuit. Panelists will include: Matt Smith, Gin Hammond and Carter Rodriquez with moderator Sarah Harlett.
Gin Hammond wrote, produced and toured Man Catches Fish to the Nanaimo Fringetastic Festival last August. Gin has participated in fringe festivals at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe The Clonmel Junction Festival in Clonmel, Ireland, The Hotbed Festival, Cambridge, England, The Roadside Theater One-Act Play Festival in Heidelberg, Germany and the Key City Public Theater Playwrighting Festival in Port Townsend.
Carter Rodriquez, with fellow actors Sachie Mikawa and Ben Burris, toured Le Frenchword's "Fancy Mud" to the Winnepeg and Edmonton Fringe Festival Circuit in August 2012.
Matt Smith toured "All My Children," a 90-minute theatrical event, to the New York International Fringe Festival and was one of 19 shows selected from 187 for the 2012 Fringe Encore series.
Sarah Harlett is a Freehold Faculty member and a founding member of the Compound Collective, an acclaimed performance group in Seattle that focused on original works. Sarah has been in several NW New Works festivals at On The Boards and is currently working on an original works piece with Megan Murphy Company.
If you are unable to attend this upcoming forum, stay tuned as we look forward to scheduling more forums on other interesting theater topics.
We hope to see you on January 24th!
