RITF Eye of the Cyclone
In the summer of 2008 Ventura's own Rubicon Theatre Company plays host to its first International Theatre Festival. Eye of the Cyclone is a play from the Ivory Coast, written by Luis Marques and directed by Vagba Obou. The story follows a 26-year-old guerilla colonel who is held captive in a prison cell. It is the first safe haven he has known since being captured from his village by force at the age of 8. A court appointed attorney perseveres through the captive's silence to unearth the man tripped behind a lifetime of violence. Partners and adversaries, the attorney and the soldier are two faces in the mirror of the same generation. he, child soldier with a lifetime of memories culled from guerilla warfare; she, educated, with a lifetime of memories culled from the comforts of an ambitious and modern society. "L'oeil du Cyclone" explores the epidemic of citizens coping with post-traumatic stress syndrome and its consequences.
