Chamber Music of Matthew Locke
Matthew Locke, arguably the most irascible and cantankerous English musician of the 17th century, also wrote some of loveliest and quickiest of chamber music ever heard.
Locke was also an innovator, and it was only Henry Purcell who could succeed Locke in harmonic daring and melodic invention; no other contemporary came close.
The program will be played by Peter Hallifax and Julie Jeffrey (viols), the Barefoot house band, who are delighted to be joined by guests David Wilson (violin) and Dominic Schaner (theorbo).
This rare music will be perfectly matched by the lovely wooden acoustic of St. Mark's Parish Hall, and will be accompanied by the usual Barefoot refreshments. See the website for more details.
