Filhos de Bimba School of Capoeira Regional Fundraising Gala
Come join us for an inspiring evening of traditional Brazilian music, dance, and capoeira performances, a delicious dinner, and a silent auction! Celebrate Brazilian culture by supporting the opening of the first Filhos de Bimba School of Capoeira in the Bay Area that focuses on the methodology and rich traditions of Capoeira Regional set forth by Mestre Bimba, the founder of modern Capoeira.
Experience the rich and diverse culture of Brazil through the rhythmic music of the berimbau and other traditional instruments, performances of Puxada de Rede, the dance celebrating the fishermen's daily life, and Maculele, a dramatic and high-energy mock-combat dance using grimas (sticks).
Enjoy a delicious dinner while you learn more about Capoeira Regional, and the Filhos de Bimba School of Capoeira in an engaging presentation by Contra Mestre Malandro.
After dinner, you will be transported to the streets of Brazil, with the night's featured entertainment, a Capoeira Roda (demonstration) with Contra Mestre Malandro, his students, and special guests.
Throughout the evening you can bid for items in the silent auction including Brazilian cultural artifacts, local handicrafts, and more!
The event will be held 6-9pm on Saturday, January 26th, 2013, in the main hall of the historic 1930's art deco Veterans Memorial building in Emeryville at 4321 Salem St. Emeryville, CA 94608.
All the ticket sales, silent auction proceeds and contributions support the inauguration of the first Filhos de Bimba School of Capoeira in the United States in March, which will bring Capoeira Regional mestres from Brazil and around the world to Emeryville to officially inaugurate the school and offer capoeira regional workshops to the entire Bay Area community.
